I do remember reading that the ETSI has recognized the Q's Patent Portofolio. As I recall, the scope of the patents are broad b/c they cover both the narrowband CDMA (IS-95) and the Q's latest version of CDMA (CDMA2000 [correct me if I am wrong]).

Of course, anyone can fight the validity of a patent in court, but that will cost alot of money.
