Wasn't that what I said? No doubt men -- and women -- may resort to the lie when confronted with charges of adultery (although clearly that is not the key issue here). Most folks who do lie about adultery, however, don't compound their problem by making horse's asses of themselves on national television, let alone use (or more accurately, abuse) their top lieutenants and ardent supporters to carry on the charade on their behalf. Clinton made his bed and now he has to sleep in it. Welcome to the Big Leagues of Washington political hardball.

A prime example: Stephanopoulos, or however you spell it. At one time a top political advisor and ardent Clinton supporter, and now one of the president's most knowledgeable and visible critics. 'Spect a lot of folks are dumbfounded by this turn of events, but surprise! George used to be Gephardt's right hand man on Capitol Hill, and if I remember right, the Missouri congressman still aspires to a certain higher office, with the VP standing firmly in the way. Next up: China and DNC fundraising. Gore will no doubt get yet another chance at 15 minutes of "fame," and watch House Democrats (aka Gephardt's allies) lend a hand this time around. Again, welcome to the Big Leagues.
