The only sales in Asia I think will be like any other sexual enhancers, Not mass sales. I am sure when viagra is first available they will sell like hot cakes for a while but unlike with socialised medicine, they are not going to get the pills just to jack off. I would think in 6 months to an year, actual sales of viagra will be quite low. But in the long run I can see muse scripts higher than viagra scripts in asia and a few other places, and what I mean by higher scripts is prob in the 10000 range or less per country. Nothing to jump up and down over unless you are small company. Add enough countries and you have a small little monopoly in the stuff, but nothing like any sales figures I see.

Just as an example take the number of anti-biotic scripts in the US v/s any asian country.

So the 100000 viagra scripts in the US and so 5000000 in china cause there are 50 times the people is never going to happen, I would be amazed to see 25000 scripts for viagra.

Quite a few american companies make marketting mistakes in other countries, the ones that learn go on to become successful, the others never figure it out. Heck we dont need to go to some diverse and strange culture, just go to england, I am always amazed at the number of american companies that has no clue how people in england live and think. I am just reading stuff recently after a US company bought out a UK company and the mess thats going on.

Excellent post fro Yahoo #16002 discussion with Nina concerning 10 Q

ok now I have come here to settle some of all the stock holder's worste fears. I know it is very tough when shorts keep posting their arogant comments. Yes, they are winning and they sure enjoy rubbing salt in our wounds.
Now I bought Vivus late last year and after speaking to vivus today I decided to double down my position rather than outright sell my original position for a huge loss. My break even point now is 15 and even 15 seems to be far away at this point in time.
Let me explain my lengthy discussion with Vivus. Anyone wanting to confirm this information can call them to verify.
Regarding the latest filing: It is carefully worded by their lawyers and is intended to protect the Company from potential lawsuits. They are already being sued for alledgedly making false bullish statements last year. Everything is worded to specifically word out every scenario that will lead to problems or failure. This reads poorly but it simply is the way the corporate game is played.
Regarding the part discussing manufacturing problems: This part refers to the fact that the new plant is not functioning at maximum efficiency. The plant's production efficiencies improve as each month passes and as trained staff gains experience and as new equipment is added the plant's capacity and efficiency is improved. There has not been any major problem in the new plant should arise.
Regarding the statement claiming that the Company does not expect to be profitable in 1998:

This does not specifically refer to a loss in Q3 nor Q4. Vivus will not have a profitable FY 1998. There was too much loss in the first 2 quarters to have a net profit in 1998. Currently the companies goal is to return to profitability. The Q3 goal is to simply not lose money. Thus the Q3 goal is to do no worse than break even and even hopefully show at least a small profit. Anything in the range of 0 to +.05 will be considered to be good and anything above +.05 will be considered to be extremely good. The goal for Q4 is to see a significant profit.
Regarding the domestic partner:

This is the biggy. Vivus is in negotiations but so far there is not a signed agreement. Vivus hopes to sign a new domestic partner as soon as possible. Vivus has given itself a negotiating time frame up until the end of the year. The deal with Alza allows Vivus to not be pressured into signing a last minute deal where their negotiating strength will be lessened. I really don't think that anyone including Mrs. Ferrari knows for sure what exactly is the status of this matter. Anyone who would want to get information that is reliable would need to contact the CEO. The CEO, CFO and chairmain Dr. Place are probably the only ones privy to this info. If anyone is able to contact any of these officers please let the others know the results of such a conversation.

This is about all I can contribute. Viagra has created much uncertainty for Vivus. The stock price certainly reflects this uncertainty. Wallstreet wants solid promises with solid delivery and solid earnings. Vivus can not even give promises at this present point in time. The future is uncertain thanks to Viagra. Viagra will not be able to cure all those suffering from ED. Probably Viagra won't help but 1/2 of those inflicted with ED. But to recapture a profitable market share will take time....not days or weeks but months to quarters. Good Luck all as I am now signing off. Don't worry. Be happy. It will all work out but it will take time. CO
