SONETLYNX(TM) Unique Multipoint Multiprotocol
Chosen In $1MM Communications Backbone
SONETLYNX to Provide Multipoint Ethernet and Voice
Communications <>

August 19, 1998

RICHARDSON, Texas, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ via
NewsEdge Corporation -- Intelect Communications, Inc.
(Nasdaq: ICOM), a leading provider of products and
services for the seamless integration of voice, data and
video technologies, announced today that its
SONETLYNX(TM) intelligent fiber-optic multiplexer has
again been selected to provide backbone networks for
information system at Kennedy International, La Guardia
International and Newark International Airports.

"This contract, valued at approximately $1 million, is the
second award this quarter that provides SONETLYNX
functionality in applications in New York and New Jersey
Port Authority communications networks. This latest
multipoint, multimedia network application, provides
voice and data service across Local Area Networks
(LANs) for parking facilities," stated Peter Ianace,
president and chief executive officer of Intelect Network
Technologies, the business unit producing
SONETLYNX.

"Because SONETLYNX readily supports multiple
communications interfaces, it is ideal for the
communication upgrade project," stated Peter Sands,
president and chief executive officer of Ascom Trindel
Corp., the systems integrator on the project.
"SONETLYNX has the advantage of supporting varied
applications while simplifying network management.
SONETLYNX's multipoint ethernet capabilities reduce
the size and cost of multiplexer equipment at each
location by permitting LAN communication to and from
any node in the network with only one interface per
multiplexer. This is a measurable benefit for the
customer."

Last month, Intelect announced that its SONETLYNX
multiplexer would be installed in a separate security
application at the Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark
airports. In that application, the Intelect multiplexers will
provide a security data path for a card access system
that is used to control access to the airports' secure
areas.

The multiplexers are connected to each airport's SONET
network. (SONET, or Synchronous Optical Network, is a
standard for broadband transmission through fiber-optic
cables. The Intelect multiplexer complies with the SONET
standard.) The SONETLYNX network will operate at
OC-3/155.52 Megabits per second line speed. At the
three airports, the multiplexers will provide 100 Megabits
per second (100baseT) Ethernet LAN and 4-wire E&M
voice communication interfaces. The upgrade gives the
Port Authority newer technology and greater network
bandwidth that will keep pace with increased traveler
traffic.

Ascom Trindel Corp., a subsidiary of Ascom AG of Bern
Switzerland, specializes in designing, supplying,
installing and maintaining computerized parking revenue
control systems and toll collection systems. The
company has installed parking revenue control systems
at airports around the world, including 20 of the busiest

ICOM's fall in price could be related to, (via my broker) "The re-pricing of some convertable shares of a venture capital firm".

Don't know what that means nor do I know the name of the venture capital firm.

My broker tells me that their analyst beleives one should wait to see where the shares "base" before one decides whether to buy. The analyst has a price target of 11 in '99.

I do not currently own ICOM. The brokerage firm is A. G. Edwards.
