IMHO, the value of the group is a real intangible: Certainly more than one of us was impressed that they had Lauren on the DOM, and, like I've said before, maybe there is some hidden value in whatever effort SoftQuad has put into XML. Some time ago I remember seeing that Xmetal was going to be in beta this fall (it might have been an article this past spring on redherring.com). Anyway, maybe I was deluded to think that SoftQuad had some ace in the hole, and that with the recent initiatives in XML in quite a number of companies, that somebody would come out swinging desperately to aquire that part of SoftQuad. Certainly the activity on the NG hasn't suggested that anybody is using swebf xml tools yet...and one worries that, although they may have had the upper hand at one time, they've squandered their lead and a handful of companies have passed them by. esecurities and I have both pointed out Datachannel and Allaire a couple of times...if there are any programmer lurkers on the thread I would like to hear any guesses as to what either of these companies might be willing to spend on that part of SoftQuad. Send a PM if you're secretly buying shares for goodnessake--throw us a bone! hehe. Of course, if you get into a discussion like that with a programmer or an xml expert, then you have to finally admit that I for one am not a programmer... have no contacts at any of the html authoring/tools companies (tho I did speak breifly with a sales rep at Datachannel a few weeks ago--anybody who has not already checked out their website, should) and maybe this roll of the dice was the one which teaches the gambler a lesson. Ah, ecommerce and the internet really looked hot til SoftQuad spoiled the party for us, I still cant beleive they didn't pull out a rabbit for us. Can you imagine the kind of pop they could have gotten if they'd sold something off to that fish oil company, Zapata, hehe. (that was a listless, weepy hehe...just so you know how to read it). I guess these are all the sorts of questions one would want to take up with management. I think maybe I was too timid not to call them up myself--knowing that my bundle of shares were so paltry compared to other investors. I seem to remember a couple who has a million shares of this--I'll bet they've got pretty good access. I wonder what major investors do when one of their stocks is down 50% in a couple months, surely you cant sell... the price would completely collapse, and it is probably already artificially deflated by that last earnings. grumble grumble eom
