MediaOne Launches Residential Digital Telephone Service in Two Florida Markets MediaOne Now Offers Residential Telephony Choice in Three States August 19, 1998 DENVER, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdge Corporation -- MediaOne(R), the broadband services arm of MediaOne Group, has unveiled its offering for local residential telephone service in two Florida markets: Jacksonville and Lighthouse Point. MediaOne customers now have a choice of telephone service providers in Jacksonville, Lighthouse Point, Atlanta and Los Angeles. "Launching telephone service in Florida demonstrates our continuing commitment to offering broadband services to our customers as we upgrade our network," said Nancy McGee, vice president of marketing telephony for MediaOne. "We have been encouraged by customer response to telephony in both Atlanta and Los Angeles, and are looking forward to adding telephony in at least one other market later this year." Approximately 350 customers have been participating in a beta test of MediaOne's local residential telephone service in Florida since June, and now any customer in the Broadband service area in Jacksonville and Lighthouse Point can sign up for the service. MediaOne's Digital Telephone Service one- and two-line packages are priced 15 to 20 percent lower than the local telephone company's packages. When customers sign up, they receive free installation, one month of telephone service free, and three months of voice mail at no charge. Prices for MediaOne's one-line package is $21.95, which includes one phone line with Call Waiting, Caller ID, Three-Way Calling, and 14 additional features. In addition, customers who switch to MediaOne for local telephone service can keep their existing telephone number and long-distance carrier. The company also offers a 30-day switchback guarantee for customers who want to try the service. "For the first time, customers have a choice for their local residential telephone service, and now they can experience the quality of digital telephone service using the most advanced digital network in the world -- our Broadband network."
