Yes, I do live in the Philippines. Two years ago I was living way out in the hinterlands, but I do think I would have noticed a major "currency and economic crisis". On the currency side, we had a spike to 35 during the Gulf crisis, then held quite steady between 26 and 28 until July '97. The economic course has been gradually improving, though still vulnerable in many ways, since the '89 coup attempt.

don't seem to support your contention about the Philippines being the first to feel the effects of the Japanese troubles. I would say our problems (and their are plenty) stem more from internal causes than what's happening in Japan, though the latter will certainly have their effect.
