<The product will be available by Oct. 1, >

Herein lies a big problem, by this time ASND will probably have shipped close to 15,000 TNTs all of which will have potential for SS7 by adding the Ascend Signalling Gateway. To go down the Lucent (Livingston) route the customer has to buy both the PM4 and whatever vapor Lucent are offering to integrate with it. Funnily enough, Lucent I think used to "partner" with Stratus to provide customers fault tolerant SCPs. The point I would make is, sure, Nortel and Lucent know an awful lot about AIN/SS7 but rip the badge off the front and you probably find Stratus or HP opencall underneath. Therefor they will probably have to continue to partner with someone, develop, or acquire technology to get close to ASND in this respect. One further point is BAY and 3Com were dependent on Stratus at various levels for there own access concentrator/SS7 integration spiel, guess that'll all go to sh*t when the acquisition completes if not before.
