(ASE - LMN) contemplating the acquisition of Ariel by Leader has been cancelled. Following the successful completion of "Due Diligence" the international financial unrest made it impossible for Leader to complete its financial committments to the agreement. Ariel will continue its operations in Costa Rica, where it remains the largest gold producer in the country. Cost of producing an ounce of gold is steadily decreasing and overhead expense has been drastically reduced so that operations may continue at or below the present price for gold. Ariel sells its production in US $ and pays its expenses in Costa Rican Colones and Canadian $ and when the price of gold increases Ariel expects to return to profitable operations sooner than previously anticipated.
