Jim (off-topic, metaphorically): I have been on the Autobahn a few times, and you're right. Considering the speeds reached and the speed differentials between vehicles, you'd think the average German only lives for about a week. A couple of factors help them survive:
1. Good etiquette (as you said)
2. Great vehicle engineering
3. Great road design
4. Lower incidence (I believe) of drunk driving

Our friends at Germany's Siemens Corp. build good products too.. Or more exactly, where they don't build it, they buy it. Considering their size and track record, Siemens not about to have any serious accidents. They're currently paving the roads here in the States to accomodate their vehicles. In the meantime, I believe that Maura Marx is going to be doing a lot of driving up and down the Autobahn where the roadway is already smooth and straight.
