Ian, still being confused,
I asked my tech teacher about that again, his response to your info:

>>> These statements are not true. To run OSX/Rhapsody
>>> you need an "open firmware" mac. Of all the macs
>>> shipped, only the latest have open firmware roms.

Again, in the case of OS X, the compatibility issues are far from being decided. Your teacher may eventually be proved right, but according to Avie Tevanian, Apple's OS chief, it's still an open question. For example, Apple's original Developer Release of Rhapsody (DR1) only worked on a very select number of machines. By DR2 this had been expanded to include every currently shipping Macintosh, as well as more older models.

>>>Also, nubus is not supported at all. PCI only.

True. This is consistent with what I said. The models I'd mentioned, PowerPC 604's And 603's are PCI. I should've made the distinction that the "older" Macs upgraded with G3 processor cards must also be PCI.

OS8 and it's progeny are designed for compatibility
with the older macs.

True. And again, this is consistent with what I'd said, "OS 8.5, 8.6 and Sonata will be fully compatible with G3 and non-G3 (older) Macintosh."
