Last Tues. I had to go, fasting for 12 hrs. for basic stuff. They had me answer 3 questionaires, then showed me a number of sillouette pictures, brought me in a room with a single sandwich on a plate, and a plate full of sandwiches (all about 1" sq.) and I had to answer various questions to a computer using a mouse to gauge my responses. I go back tomorrow morning and I think I will start as a test subject. The last time I saw the Dr. (last week) he walked me through injecting myself, and I got to do it with saline solution. This is my second stint with Pennington, which is a block from my office. The first time was with Sibutrimine Hydrochloride, now marketed as Merida, I think. It's an appetite suppressant. I'll try to keep you updated. Yours, Steve

I returned to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center (PBRC.Com) after being screened last week. I was told by Liz Tucker that Amgen approved me as a test subject. She told me they were going to have 36 subjects in the pc leptin study. I was number 18. They are having a problem with test subjects because, apparently, Amgen is being pretty selective.
I spoke, also, with Dr. Chris Lewis, the head researcher here, and was told there are 11 sites doing leptin trials, each having 12 subjects, with Pennington having more because they are doing additional things. I can scan and email all my consents if you wish.
Subjects are divided into three groups, those injecting themselves daily, 3x per week or 1x per week. I thought I was unlucky when told I was randomly assigned to the daily group, however, I changed my mind when told all subjects are injecting the same quantity each week, with those having 1 dose per week having to take 7x what I take and the 3x and 1x subjects are experiencing various adverse events therefrom, which are not being seen in the daily injectees. I don't know, for sure if I'm on the placebo or leptin, but, since we were not told what to expect, from my physical reaction today, I believe I am receiving leptin. Be advised, only Amgen knows for certain, because the selection is done by them over the phone, not Pennington.
We will go for 2 months, I think, 1x per week, then I think 2x per month, then 1xz per month. Its a 6 month clinical trial.
If you have anything you want to me to ask next week, send me an email. If you desire, you can call me at my office (225) 769-5311. Yours, Steve
