Satish:
Mahabharata: The most likely date of composition is between 300 BC to 100 BC. Historians consider MB largely a work of fiction. The original author is unknown or uncertain. Some historians draw a parallel to the Trojan war. The Mahabharata with Draupadi and the Greeks with Helen have a common theme that the women were offended one way or another and the men went to war. Also consider Sita of Ramayana, her abduction and the ensuing war.
It looks men go to war: women, honor, power, materials, satisfaction of ego, simple mindless destruction, religion, supremacy etc.

Ramayana: Author: Valmiki. Half mythical and half historical. Time: 500 to 300 BC

In Both MB and Ramayana, the central God is Vishnu in his respective incarnations, namely Krishna and Rama.

Later in one of the posts, I would like to present how the Gods rose and fell in the minds and consciousness of the Indian landscape/ mindscape. Eg the rise and fall of Indira from a prime position to a secondary position. Vishnu and Shiva managed to hold on to their prime positions in the minds and consciousness of Indians.

More later on Harappa etc
