The Financial Post reports in its Thursday edition that Aber Resources,
which is preparing to build Canada's second diamond mine, has increased its
estimate of the diamond resources at the Northwest Territories site by ten
million carats. Reporter Paul Bagnell says that shares of Aber climbed 60
cents to $11.10 on the news. The shares touched a 52-week low of $10.45 on
Aug. 11. Vancouver-based Aber is a 40 per-cent partner in the Diavik
diamond mine project in the Lac de Gras region of the NWT, about 400
kilometres northeast of Yellowknife. Rio Tinto PLC of London holds the
remaining 60 per-cent. On Wednesday, Aber said that new drill results have
led it to increase its estimate of Diavik's diamond resources to 133
million carats. The company's previous estimate was 123 million carats, of
which 104 million were considered to be a mineable reserve. No change to
the reserve figure was disclosed on Wednesday.
