I personally would have no interest in his extramarital sexual affairs if: a) They were not conducted at the office. b) They were not conducted with an employee. c) He had not silently allowed the smearing of Monica's character. d) He had not looked me in the eye and told me that he NEVER had a relationship with "that woman". And most importantly: e) If he had not lied under oath... good evening, dave... thank you for summarizing your position so well for us. your post reflects my precise same thoughts regarding such an embarrassing matter for all Americans. that's right, for all Americans, why is this fact apparently so difficult for so many of us to understand? our president lied to us repeatedly. our president broke several of our laws. our president shows no remorse for doing either. our president is instead visibly angry that we Americans should be so childish as to be upset by it. if we allow mr. clinton to stay in office we, the American people, and not congress, not the media, not the politicians nor the lawyers, but we, the American people, would be setting an extremely dangerous legal, moral, cultural, and social precedent:from this day on in history it will be admissible for American presidents to lie to us, the American people. and why do some choose to defend him based on his job performance? please spare the rest of us Americans further embarrassment... not only is such an assertion highly debatable, it is also completely irrelevant. the matter before us, fellow Americans, is not whether mr. clinton is doing a good job or not. nor is it about forgiveness. it is about whether he lied to us or not. mr. clinton lied to us and to our legal system. period. this is not a minor indiscretion, this is, to quote mr. clinton himself, a major "lapse in judgement" by the man we trust not only with the future of our great nation but, more importantly to everyone else in the world, also with the key to nuclear devastation. this is not a matter of forgiveness either. on the issue of forgiveness mr. clinton is right, forgiveness is between his wife, his daughter, himself, and their God. to defend mr. clinton, to do nothing about it, both of these things are equally a disservice to our nation, our nation's future, our children, and their children. we must stand united and demand that mr. clinton resign.hal9000@starmail.com p.s. oh, yes, and please don't accuse me of being yet another publicity-seeking republican. i am a thinking and caring American citizen who actually voted twice for the non-inhaling bastard...
