Playmate Online Database Y2K Compliant

CHICAGO, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- After rigorous testing, Playboy says its
online Playmate Database is ready for the new millennium.
"Several members of the Playboy Cyber Club expressed concern that the
Playmate data, particularly the measurements, might not be year 2000 (Y2K)
compliant," explained Rodger Brown, editor of Playboy Online
(www.playboy.com). "I immediately asked our programmers to assess the
situation."
Many computer experts fear widespread system failures could occur on
January 1, 2000, because of programs that recognize only the last two digits
of a year. Brown said one of his chief concerns was that the Playmates'
measurements would revert back to what they would have been in 1900, before
any of the women had been born. "Our emergency response team has assured me
that we won't have any 00-00-00 Playmates," Brown said. "Once a 36-23-35,
always a 36-23-35."
Playboy Online's Y2K compliance test of the Playmate Database took longer
than expected, Brown said, "because the programmers insisted on checking each
of the statistics in the Database with the original photos in the magazine.
That's the sort of dedication I've come to expect from this crew."
Some experts speculate that the Y2K problem could lead to everything from
lost paychecks to empty grocery store shelves and the collapse of governments.
"Even if that worst-case scenario occurs," Brown added, "we will still be able
to provide members with the measurements, heights, weights, birthplaces,
birthdates and turn-ons of each of their favorite Centerfolds. The Playmate
Database will survive to help us rebuild society as we know it."
The online Playmate Database contains statistical and biographical
information on the 535 women who have appeared in the Centerfold since Playboy
debuted in December 1953. The Playboy Cyber Club (cyber.playboy.com) includes
every Playmate datasheet from September 1959 to present, along with never-
before-published photographs and updates.
