To All,

Tonight there is a rather obscure, but interesting, meteor shower expected. I
thought I would share it with you all because it looks so nice out today. The
viewing conditions should be ideal. I do not believe there is a moon out this
evening.

The name of the shower is the Kappa Cygnids, named for the radiant of the
shower, which is the point in the sky (in this case a star name) where it
appears all of the meteors are coming from. This is an allusion caused by the
movement of the Earth towards that point in the sky. This shower peaks
tonight and only produces (historically) about 12 meteors per hour. What's
interesting, however, is that this shower has a history of producing a number
of fireballs, extremely brilliant white/yellow flashes. In addition, these
are slow meteors which often produce trails that persist for several minutes
after the meteor has come and gone.

The best place to look is directly overhead (which is where Cygnus will be)
around midnight (although earlier is almost as good). Have fun and good luck!

By the way, I've never observed this shower before so it will be a first for
me as well, and I make no guarantees.
