Sounds good to me.I believe a national sales tax could work with a strong list of exceptions such as food or some other necessities.Haveing said that, wouldn't that be taxing people twice?Remember that every dime saved we paid taxes on already. Want to pay tax on it again when we spend it? I suppose this could be worked out one way or another.

<<Allowing a$32000 deduction seems to be creating a very large class
of free loaders to me>>

It's flawed to have a high federal tax and a high exemption. The tax falls mainly on those people who are in high-income high-cost areas such as the two coasts and the major cities. The vast number of people in the smaller populated areas and in the middle of the country would pay little or no tax. Also, having a large exemption retains the current posture of pitting one group of people who pay no tax and are on the receive govt benefits against others who pay the tax to support them.

...a national sales tax. It's much harder to hide
from, and seems to be more fair.

I think a national sales tax is more difficult for the poor, who must spend a larger % of their income for necessities. Then if you start exempting certain categories of goods, you get back to buying votes again.

IMO a flat tax, adjusted for inflation, that replaces all other federal taxes is more fair, and it would be more difficult for politicians to hide any increase in taxes.
