Why AMZN should crash today. The competition in this commodity business is immense and Amazon has little chance of ever making a profit. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Tower Records Sets Up Global Shop On Internet LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. music retailer Tower Records said it plans to launch an online service that will allow consumers around the world to order music, videos and books over the Internet. The move, billed as the first time a major music retailer has set up an online global distribution service, came amid market speculation that rivals such as Richard Branson's Virgin Group were considering similar operations. Tower plans to start up the British-based distribution service in the second week of November under its deal with EIS/ MusicNet, which will provide the online system for the service. Consumers will be able to order music in six languages and 150 different currencies from 40 locations in the company's global distribution network. The Web site address will be announced in coming weeks. ''Whether you are mad for Madonna in Mozambique or avid for ABBA in Alaska, Tower Records' range of over 600,000 entertainment titles ... will be available at the end of your fingertips,'' Tower said in a statement. Tower currently has domestic online retail networks in the United States and Japan, which are expected to link up eventually with the global distribution network, a spokesman said. Tower has more than 200 stores in North and South America, Asia, the Middle East and Britain and Ireland. For its part, Virgin Retail said it planned to set up a Web site serving customers in Britain but had yet to set a date. ''We will be launching a Web site which will contain some online selling,'' a Virgin spokesman said.
