Paul, there are two issues here. First, investing. I'm not a long term buy and hold guy. Short term I don't find Apple a compelling value right now. I have some concerns about supply as there having difficulty meeting Powerbook and high end G3 demand. On the other hand I don't find Intel a compelling value here either.

The second issue which is what's good for the industry as a whole and I'd say that Apple's use of strong industrial design, their move ahead of the PC makers to embrace the USB (I know it's Intel design), their inclusion of cable modem ready ethernet, etc. are things that may get designers in the PC world thinking provided it's a success. Lastly, I think you would applaud Apple also holding the line on low cost computers by providing a fast processor in their "low cost" design and selling it at a moderate price. Better than another $500 PC. Elitist? To a degree. But is it a bad thing for a company to appeal to people willing to pay more to get a quality tool. What about Dell - they also are holding the line on low cost computers and you don't characterize them as elitist. Rich
