Dear John - since I don't know much about SE Asian countries except HK, I will limit my comment as an ancedotal observation. Actually, there are many HKese who have stepped to the sideline before the malaise has begun. These are the same people who have been buying distressed properties [RE primarily, but possibly also biz] on the cheap. Also, deep pockets like Li Ka Shing have not yet gone to hell with a handbasket [but then, one could classify Cheng Kong Ltd as a multinational <G>.] Additionally, cos like HKT are already held by BTY etc.
