Mike,

Thanks for the info. The issues presented on the ADSL side are quite serious. In regard to cable though I think what this speaker says is garbage.

1.why a speaker on the issue from MICROSOFT (why not someone related to cable technology) . As Perdu would say what do they know about chickens?

2. his assertion that 27 mbps downstream is the same as 33 kbps is somewhat questionable. I know that it is sharable bandwidth, but this is a bandwidth of just one channel and cable operators will allocate more then one when needed.

3. He claims that at $40 per customer they will not be able to make any money. Right now they charge much less for cable services and make money, aren't they??

4. He states that they will be responsible for maintanace of the modems, I suspect their conracts with Motorola and Bay and 3Com will allow them to mail broken modems for repairs at no cost, just under the warranty.

Conclusion: people from Microsoft with software brains should not be listned to on the hardware issues.
