Gary, I too was skeptical for a couple of days since I was ignorant to the fact that Stratus had more to than fault tolerant computers. C,mon they have a Computer in their name not Communications :-)
Then I read their product literature and now some analyst reports after their joint presentation. Its a kick ass deal and very cheap at that too.

Gary, do you know of any other "fault tolerant" computer
manufacturers, out there, who are ripe for picking by other
companies such as CSCO, LU, ERICY, etc ??

Regards,
Mardy.

Now I'm wondering where all the negative
perspectives went. I know Bucky89 was VERY negative on this acquisition. Has
everyone changed their mind now that SRA deal is real?

Gary,

In the absence of detailed information and while the SRA takeover was still only rumor, my initial reaction on the deal was negative.

Now that the details are out, I can understand why Ascend made this move. What I originally feared most--that Ascend was entering the computer business--is not true. They are only adding 400 out of the 2500 SRA employees, and it's rumored that they already have a buyer to take the other 3 divisions they aren't interested in.

I agree that ASND does have the potential to enter the tier 1 group of networking players. It's possible, but not a sure bet. I see greater potential for both ASND and LU together than for each of them as separate entities.

Cisco? I like your company a lot, but you still have much to prove in the telco market. You'll eventually get there, but I do see a combined LU/ASND competitor causing some damp discomfort in Chambers' trousers. That will be good for all of us, Cisco included. Might also somewhat rationalize Cisco's market cap.
