Hi Mohan,..Re:<<Clones & Consumer PC Market>>

Mazman posted a link this morning from Dell's consumer PC manager who explained clearly that We're consciously targeting the experienced users.

Dell & Consumer Market

This should answer any questions about clones. Of course I know you already know this but maybe others don't.

Regards,

Lee

Mohan, I think for Dell to enter the sub 1000 dollar pc market would be nuts. With the financial performance that was just demonstrated by Dell, why should they even think of going after this low cost market? IMO, Dell needs to stay the course...keep growing and generating profits. Plus, look at all the jobs they are now creating...and these jobs are around the world.

Negatives from DELL conference call: They stressed a couple of times that both gross margins (at 22.7%) and net margins (at 8%) were the highest ever, and they will likely not be sustained. This may not be so bad, since unit growth will compensate for the lower margins.

Also, they stressed that due to the expansions in China, Latin America, high end storage area: initially there will be expenses related to hiring etc, and it might take a little bit before the full potential of these investments is realized.

Also they were very equivocal when asked about ASPs, and what would happen to them should component prices stop declining.
