Caracas stocks off 9.26 pct on devaluation fears

CARACAS, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Investors shrugged off repeated official assurances that there would be no devaluation of Venezuela's bolivar currency and dumped shares, sending the (^IBC - news) IBC index down 9.26 percent to 3,451.18 by midsession, brokers said.

''It's because of the devaluation rumors. It's become a terrible snowball, out of control,'' said Banesco broker Simon Brad.

Brokers added, however, that volume was extremely thin. ''There's absolutely nobody buying,'' one said.
