xau closed at the high and with pretty good volume for two days in a row. dollar weak, tension building, russia coming unglued and even news from brokers suggesting gold has bottomed. last but not least(heh, heh) premiums on NEM leap calls have strengthened considerably this week. the lieaf was 1 3/4 a week ago and now at 2 3/4 with a dollar rise in NEM. Looks like the MMs are protecting themselves a bit. POG may be ready to rally a bit. With the overall market so weak and abx, nem posting decent earnings with POG in the doldrums then perhaps the funds are getting a little interested.

"Pissed @ Ken Starr? Go kill some Afghanies/Sudanese! That'll show him!"

The peoples from that part of the world are none to be trifled with. I remember a story about the Afghan rebels. It was in the throes of winter in Afghanistan and a group of mujahadin slowly crawled along a mountainside for 18 hours in -30 windchills until they came to rows of Soviet borderguard blockhouses. Said one rebel fighter, "We had each had a relative murdered by the Russians--our hate was stronger than our suffering." They lit the blockhouses on fire and machinegunned the Russians as they ran out from the blazes.

In Chechnya a group of rebel fighters attacked a Russian town across the border then fled back into Chechen territory. An entire Russian army pursued and surrounded them as they holed up in a small village. Though viciously shelled with artillery, they held out for several days. Then, without warning, the rebels effected a frontal attack from out of the rubble, catching the Russians totally off-guard as fresh Chechen units filtered in to attack the Russians from the rear. In the confusion, a third of the Chechens escaped the trap. The rest died fighting, inflicting heavy casualties on Russian troops. It was one of the greatest guerrilla victories in history.

Pissed @ Ken Starr? Go kill some Afghanies/Sudanese! That'll show him! This guy's dangerous...

Public opinion is not on their side. As the story unfolds on the "suspected" pharmaceutical/ chemical weapons plant that "could" produce chemical weapons, we will find that "intelligence" is maybe not so intelligent. Albright and Berger serving up these words like "suspected" and "could" makes me seriously doubt the US government's story. They attacked the capital of Sudan....an act of war against a country, not a terrorist organization. If they want to kill Ben Laden, then do so, and world opinion will be on their side. This is just the act of a desperate President, who is attempting to divert from his conduct.

It shocks me that of all the people who advise the President, not one understands the psychology of the fanatic mentality. Maybe they have been watching too many American produced movies, that always show a positive spin and the "good guys" winning in the end, then coming home to talk about it. Death affects North Americans in a negative way, but these fanatics welcome death as they believe it is their ticket to heaven. This doesn't hurt them, in fact it promotes their cause. These fanatics gladly give their life to achieve whatever sick objectives they have.

The only purpose that these attacks accomplished is to put a "huge bullseye" on every American in the world, and to show how transparent the American President is. His "gung-ho" attitude will only serve to hurt innocent Americans around the world, making them the target of every lunatic in the world, while he sits at home having dodged the draft and watched "John Wayne" movies all his life to get his opinion of war.
