Laura, start with The Producers (with Zero Mostel -- arguably Brooks' most original film), follow with Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and High Anxiety. I thought that History of the World and Space Balls, and Life Stinks were not up to par. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and High Anxiety feature wonderful performances by the funniest woman to haver ever lived -- Madeline Kahn.

Now for real Mel Brooks lovers, there is a series of recordings that he made back in the 1960's called the 2000 year old man. The other lunatic on these recordings (live) is Carl Reiner. Some of the funniest stuff you'd ever want to here.

*o.t.* TOUGH QUESTION!

I'd probably start with Young Frankenstein..then History of the World Part I, Spaceballs, then Blazing Saddles. I'm sure I've missed a few. If you are fairly young (under 30) you may identify with the humor of Spaceballs best because it is a spoof on Star Wars.

There was another one he made where he was rich and on a bet allowed himself to be dropped off in a rough neighborhood without a cent. I don't remember the name but found it to be funny as well. I'd skip "Silent Movie"..unless you like subtitles.

Have fun...hmmm, me thinks I'll rent one or two this weekend as well.

T.R.

P.S. IMHO..you really can't miss with any of these.
