I have just received the August 12 mailing of the Richard Russell Dow Theory Letter. According to the theory we are now in a bear market. The primary trend is now, according to Russell, bearish. Thus, even if we have abrupt, violent up days every so often, the tendency in the long run will be downwards. The bigger stocks(DELL, MSFT,CSCO,LU,etc.) will be the last to correct, but they will be dragged down by the overall market which has seen most stocks lose a sizable portion of their evaluation. I would have to agree with this analysis for it seems since a few months now investor sentiment has changed and we are hearing a lot more negative comments. Also, the big boys have been selling big time since at least a month.
