Data Race Files Suit Vs Lucent

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Communications products maker Data Race Inc. (RACE - news) said today it has filed a patent suit against Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU - news) seeking to prevent the telecommunications equipment giant from marketing its Virtual Telephone system.

Data Race said in a news release it is asking the U.S. District Court in San Antonio for unspecified damages and a permanent injunction prohibiting Lucent from violating Data Race's intellectual property rights.

It has asked the court to issue a preliminary injunction prohibiting Lucent from marketing the Virtual Telephone system, claiming the product and other Lucent Internet telephony products violate a patent issued to Data Race in June, it said.

A spokeswoman for Lucent was not immediately available to respond to the suit.

Data Race's patent is entitled ''System and Method for Providing a Remote User with a Virtual Presence to an Office,'' it said.
