Good, another positive weigh-in on Tolkien. He's on the to read list, but for now I'm finally reading Sherlock Holmes and studying ancient trade routes and the history of naval warfare. Tolkien is something I'd like to read when I have a couple of days with little else to do so that I can read it straight through and let the story sink in. And in high school I remember what seemed like everyone reading it, no division along boy/girl lines.
