Dave: I can not with any honesty tell you what the stock price will do either before or after the split as it is hard to predict this sort of thing. As for buying Dell all I can tell you is this, every time I bought the stock I thought the price was too high and I paid too much. I guess it is better if you decide for yourself after doing the necessary leg work, besides I am not qualified to give you such advice. See what others will have to say, but one thing is for sure if you ask Kemble he will tell you any time is a good time to buy DELL and he should know.<gg>

Dave, I wouldn't wait around for the stock to go to $170 before the split. While it's always possible, I don't think it's likely to happen this time.

Regards,

LoD

There's never any way to know when to buy Dell.
Just be sure you buy.
All my friends, who have been waiting until its "cheaper"are hitting themselves in the head. And still now buying. And next year will be upset again.
In six months you will be a believer too.

There are only 11 trading days left before the split; I cannot see the stock going up to 170 by then. However I do expect it to go into the high 130s in the next couple of weeks, as the momentum is back in the stock.

I've been holding Compaq for a year and watching Dell climb. I've been in and out of Dell, but always thought it was too high. Finally, I've decided that it doesn't get lower. The forward PE now isn't that much higher than last year. It's just growing like crazy. This morning, I sold most of my Compaq (at least I didn't lose) and bought Dell at 118 & 118-3/8. Since I first thought of buying it to hold, I've watched it turn into a 6 bagger without anything but my trading participation. I wouldn't want to give advice, but that was my decision.

dav,

There are a lot of us on this thread who are very high on Dell, justifiably so. I believe you will receive a lot of good input on your question.

IMHO if you are "on the fence" about when to buy and would like to own Dell I suggest you consider buying a partial position now (at a price you feel comfortable with.) That way you have the opportunity to participate in what we BELIEVE will be a nice move upward from here. As time goes on you can decide to either buy, sell or maintain what you have if it continues to climb, becomes stagnant or drops.

The first time I bought was the period you are referring to. I just plunged in at 107 (plus change), more than double what I've ever paid for a stock, and the rest is history.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

T.R.
