My Republican brother-in-law, Bob, is a retired USAF Colonel who flew intelligence missions from Vietnam through Desert Storm. This is what he told me: To connect todays bombings to Clinton's problems with Judge Starr is more than a bit far fetched. While Bob has no direct knowledge of this incident, he says that putting something like this together involves considerable logistical activity (although not nearly as much as when fighters/bombers are involved). He suggests that the contingency plan for these attacks was probably written months ago or whenever these targets were identified, that the decision to put the assets in place was probably made as soon as they had identified the "alleged" bombers, and that the decision to go ahead today was probably made based on criteria decided upon back when the original contingency plan was made, ie when the intelligence community determined that there was more to be gained than just knocking down buildings.

Having said all that, the resemblance to Wag the Dog is a bit unsettling.
