GM,

Nice post. Given the move that the market has made, doubling his money is an amazing feat given that he has only been short.

However, I wouldn't call, " ...up almost 100 percent in the last 3 1/2 years while the market is up over 150 percent." successful. By simply buying AMEX:SPY he could have had the whole 150%, could have slept well every night, not paid commissions, not paid taxes on realized capital gains, etc.

I don't think I, or anyone else, have claimed that money can't be made by shorting. Just that you can make more going long. And with the introduction of SPDRs and DIAMONDs, there is no reason for any investor not to at least equal market performance.

I don't know whether or not he has influence. I certainly wouldn't idolize anyone who says, "I worked my butt off to get 2/3 of the market performance".

FWIW,
Ian.

GM,

Re:The fund is short only and is up almost 100 percent in the last 3 1/2
years while the market is up over 150 percent. This is not a solicitation. I bring it
up to illustrate that many things have gone wrong in the last few years,

Things have gone wrong? Things like record corporate profits, world leadership by US corporations, wealth creation. Evil, evil things!
