The bent-pipe system rolled out by GSTRF is low-cost
and simple, compared to IRIDF which has electronic
satellite to satellite switching. Because all the
processing for GSTRF takes pace on earth-based
gateways, it will be easier to perform upgrades or
repairs on GSTRF's system.

A question you might want to examine is whether to
invest in GSTRF, which is a ''pure play'' in satellite
telephony, or in LOR, which owns 40% of GSTRF, but
is more diversified. For example, Cyberstar (and Skybridge,
the joint venture of ALA and LOR) gives you exposure
to data by satellite through LOR. Given that the
lifespan of the first Globalstar constellation will be
5 to 7 years, LOR may be more attractive as a very
long term (buy and hold forever) investment.
