Chip, I do not disagree with your understanding of the currency board currently in force in HK and Argentina. Of course, like any "stiff" system, it has its problems, lack of flexibility and lack of adaptability to changing conditions. That brings about changes that are too great, when the economic realities and the fixed currency exchange conflict with each other. But then, it is the same inflexibility (and permanent inflation) that those desiring a return to the gold standard would want. Zeev
