In any case, transcripts will be available after the conference to expand your realms of ignorance. Steve Forbes and I do not "back" Qwest (as far as I know, neither of us own stock in the company) but I am enthusiastic about Qwest's pioneering deployment of WDM bandwidth and think Qwest can become a major force in global telecom. WDM is wavelength division multiplexing, sending data on many colors of light down a single fiber thread. SONET is the synchronous optical network standard of the phone companies by which they reliably put tens of thousands of mostly voice 64 kilobit per second telephone circuits on a single wavelength on a fiber. SONET can run down WDM channels, but so, increasingly, can Internet Protocol(IP), so SONET is becoming redundant. The current valuation of Global Crossing seems to capture much of its potential, but I have not studied the assets closely. Certainly it is in a great longterm business.
