Did everyone notice the low volume today? 81,000 or less than 20% of normal. Given the market conditions today, MRVC did OK. Very few were willing to sell at these prices, but neither were they willing to step up to the plate and buy. Not yet. We did, however, bounce almost instantly off of 18 1/2 which seems to be very strong support.

After yesterday, I've concluded that MRVC market makers are a very timid lot: just a few shares can, at times, move them sharply off of their bid/asks. They are not providing the liquidity and solidity they are supposed to provide. Look at a level II sometime. The spread between the bid and ask of the primary MMs (such as PRUS) is often a half point. They sit on these bids -that are well out of thetrading range - while the actual cutting edge liquidity is provided often as not by INCA traders placing their own bids through Instinet.
