Katherine,

Beat-up sectors? Try AG equipment (e.g. Deere, New Holland) or Oil Services (e.g. Halliburton, Tidewater) or Latin American anything (e.g. Mexico Fund, Telebras) or basic materials (e.g. Titanium metals). Many sectors are losing. However, none of these losers have quite the visibility of the semiconducter companies so they're easy to forget.

How about the oil service companies, I like GLM and HEC, this group has been pounded. We all use oil so GLM will go up in value when ther drilling platform rates increase which probably will happen before semi's recover. HEC has been aquiring reserves in Columbia which should be valuable down the road unless political unrest causes them problems. Let me know of any other sectors you come up with, I am in semi equip's largely and have been looking for areas to spread my portfolio.

Katherine, The DW Market and Sector post I make weekly and their individual chart show that the Oil Services and Oils have gotten slain. The Sectors are in their 10's. Refer to my DW weekly Market and Sector Spreadsheet post under my profile for previous posts.

Hallburton and Schlumberger (SLB) in the Oil Services Sectors are the Gorilla's and Oil with EXXON the Gorilla. Precious Metal is Barrick Gold (ABX). Naturally, in technology it is INTC, CSCO, MSFT and AMAT.

When AMAT hits $19.5 it will be down 63% from it $54 high which will be equal to the fall of AMAT from it high ($60)in 1996 to $21. Hopefully, we will be able to pick up AMAT at the low $20 and even slightly lower. IMO, everyone should be ready to get as much cash as possible if it goes this low to purchase AMAT if it go this low.

Just my $.02.

Paul V.

Katherine,

How about those cos. with the most to lose b/c of the pushout of 300mm? PRIA comes to mind. If there is any indication 300mm will arrive before 2003, this one will skyrocket from present levels.

BK

BTW, it will take-off eventually anyway, once the upturn begins;-)
