To all,

I just received this news release:

AUTODESK (ADSK: 27, - 5-5/8) agreed to buy DISCREET LOGIC
(DSLGF: 13-1/8, - 2-7/8) for about $530 million in stock, roughly
17-1/8 per share, broadening its offerings in 3D design software
used in films and television movies. Autodesk and Discreet had
been working together for more than a year to blend their
technologies in creating and manipulating 2D and 3D images before
agreeing to strike a deal. The proposed purchase would also give
Autodesk access to one of Discreet's fastest-growing markets, as
the transition to digital television, or HDTV, from traditional
television that uses analog signals gets under way.

DSLGF is trading at $13 and looks like the buyout is worth $17 or so. Is this a no brainer or am I missing something?

Regards,

Dave

Also, in the explosive detection field - check out VVID, which seems to be taking the lead in luggage screening from MAGSF and INVN. Vivid has very impressive recent growth. This is the highest P/E of these stocks, but probably worth it, and still rediculously low (I think around 12 P/E.)

ASE also showed great strength today.

BARR didn't do so hot today, but in the past it's been a "sleeper" that tends to lag by a few days. They have a stock buy-back in place (1 million shares) and are coming off a recent low.

I doubt that a basket of these stocks would disappoint over, say, the next 2-3 weeks.
