Alex...all it takes is a bit of crisis to expose that which has been hidden....or not out in the public eye....now it looks like bank vulnerability is being exposed....great to be in this new world economy....still hearing the market bulls saying that we the US are in great shape....we are not an Island of Safety....it will hit us....everyone keeps implying that our banks are not as exposed to these markets...Asia and Russia as Europe is....but we are immersed with the European Banks....because our banks are playing (hedging) the currency markets....
Brokerage firms are using the investor accounts to short and or go long to borrow and fill orders...thats where lots of their money comes from...what happens when they have to get those securities back into these accounts...because the customer has just put in a market sell...it starts to cascade....and and and...
What happens to brokerage earnings when people close their street accounts and take possession of their share certificates, because of the 2000 issue....the brokerage houses won't have all those shares to play with....I believe that they will raise the price for an investor to get that share certificate....penalty...
enough..enough...
snowballs roll down hill...karen

ps...Venezuela just announced a Defacto devaluation of their currency...by widening the trading bands....
