Good point Sharise ... I agree ...
The fact of the matter is that there are not too many internet
companies that makes $$$ right now ...

To say that GCTY will never make money ... Is like saying AMZN
will never make money .... the last time I checked AMZN is still
in the RED ... If one believes in the Internet companies, well then
GCTY has to be considered because they are a top 10 site...
It never cease to amaze me how people can right off a company that
just went public less than 10 days ago ...
nuff said

BTW, I don't own any GCTY ... I use to .... made a handsome profit ...
just an observer looking to get back in ...

As noted by internet pundits and even GeoCities itself - there are no barriers to entry for the "community" play. If there was, there wouldn't be more community sites available then I can count with both my hands, feet, and paws borrowed from my trusted lab! :)

Seriously, GCTY's biggest ace is the brand and lazy internet homesteaders. Exodus provides the bandwith for GCTY's, consumers provide their content, and partners provide their revenue. GCTY's provides the URL and server space.

Now, when everyone talks about consolidation of the industry around the espresso machine - their not fooling. Anyone with enough $$$ and the right clout can make their mark (Zapata, ahem, cough, gag). Would I be surprised to see a big internet Co. buy out GCTY's? Nope. Go ask Robert Davis what he thinks of that idea (Tripod, WhoWhere, Angelfire...)

I'm not going to form my concrete opinion just yet - because we should give GCTY's a fair chance. They could sign some blockbuster deals, parternships, etc. In which case, they are executing their business plan. This will play out in a few reporting quarters. I'm sitting tight, enjoying the show.
