Let me save you some time. George Washington in his farewell address warned us about two things. One was to beware of foreign alliances and the second was concerning his opposition to the forming of political parties. His election was uniformly unanimous and he required no political party. Political parties were not in the political landscape in the 1790's. However, it didn't take long for it to begin. By election time, circa John Adams, political parties were taking form but they weren't part of the collective conscious from the folks who brought you the Federalist papers. I'll let you do some research on who wrote those.
