You are right. Perlite is not a good investment right now. Several companies are finding out the hard way. We have two mines in New Mexico and Brand X has one mine in New Mexico. Between the three mines we produce 85 - 90% of domestically produced perlite. Two new mines have tried to start in the last 18 months, one in Utah and one in Oregon. They are both going broke and are for sale.

Right next to our northern mine near Tres Piedras, is a scoria mine operated by a subsidiary of Hecla. Perhaps MGAU should contact Hecla and find out how to realistically make money from volcanic ash. VBG
