If LU decides not to buy ASND in OCT, then it will have made a statement about ASND's technological lead and how it views its chances of catching up in the area of ATM switching. None of us can know the secret stuff that Bell Labs is working
on right now (or ASND for that matter). By not buying ASND, LU will be saying that it thinks it can either develop ASND's technology on its own, or maybe buy someone else cheaper.

I respect your thoughts and it has merit.

But, 1. I thought that both Asnd's products/technology as well as established customers base are equally important.

2. Lu does not need to make a statement about why/why not in Oct, 98. The Lu/Asnd options and perceptions will most likely stay open until year end.

3. We are expecting a Strong Asnd third and 4th quarters. (some consideration of the merger costs but it's minimum and expected).

4. We are talking the Internet-bandwidth stock here....
