Re: "The CPU -It is my understanding that with the Virtual PC software, the iMac runs Windows at Pentium II speeds. The iMac's .25m parallel processing PowerPC CPU laptop chip process up to 40% more work than even a faster Pentium II. (It also draws 1/4 the power, generating 1/8 the heat while doing so.)"

What is a "parallel processing PowerPC CPU laptop chip"?

Hal, I have seen the Wintel emulation of a Mac and it is far slower that you say it is. You hint that a 300 Mhz G3 being 40% faster than 300 Mhz pentium uses up that 40% speed advantage and runs like a 300 Mhz Pentium. From my sight of an example it might be a 100 Mhz Pentium or less. If you pick your apps you might do better.
the 12,000 Programs?? I feel most legacy(pre 1989) programs are toast and there have not been 12000 new Apple programs since 1989.

I too used a Mac way back. I made a financial decision,, too muc money for what you get.
The ephemeral ease of use argument has faded and few people have any trouble with either platform now.

As to the imac being a self made clone?, let the world make clones and pay Apple for it and there might be some hope. early data shows the iMac is selling well, but is not a screaming success story. Apple will be able to use it and work it for gain, but it will not come easy.

Survey of buyers of the iMac indicate 13% of them made their purchase in order to leave their PCs behind.

Apple may turn this ship around yet.
