Get out of your DELL short position before it is too late. DELL closed at its highest price not only absolutely yesterday, but also relative to the S&P 500. If you are bearish overall, buy index puts or sell index calls; shorting DELL would lose you a lot of money (and deservedly, if you disregard common sense :))

David, seems like you have a fairly complex investment strategy. My strategy is much simpler. I have an asset allocation model, and try to adhere to the model as much as possible. Shorting Dell must have been an expensive trade for you, unless you covered as soon as you saw their quarterly earnings report. I make every attempt to trade independent of the tax situation...although, at times its hard not to consider the tax issues. However, I would rather pay the tax, take the remaining profits and get on with things. Letting tax matters influence a trade may prove to be very expensive.

Have a good weekend.
