This came from yesterday's Washington Times. (Damn, this really irritates me) Do you have anything that really just gets under your skin? A little thing, to be sure .... nothing that will really mean a big damn in the quality of your life ... but it irritates you to the point of insanity anyway. Today the Mayor of New York will flip some switch on some glorified clock that is supposed to start counting down the last 500 days to the new millennium. The clock will miss by about 356 days. As of today there are 856 days left, not 500. Again --- January 1, 2000 is the first day of the last year of this century. The first day of the next century, and the first day of the next millennium, will be January 1, 2001. This is making me NUTS! YOU REALLY THINK WE HAVE A BUDGET SURPLUS? Bill Clinton isn't the only politician who lies. I'm sure that isn't any real news to you. Almost every politician in Washington has been lying to you about America's fiscal health for quite some time. You've heard them ... they keep talking of our wonderful budget surplus and of the incredible job that they have done balancing the budget. For those of you who actually believe this nonsense, here's a little fact for you to chew on today. While these elected officials are bragging about our balanced budget and the wonderful surplus they are going to use to save Social Security, our national debt is increasing at the rate of about $150 billion a year. Quick question .... How in the hell can you say that you have balanced your budget, and that you actually have some extra money left over, when you are going into debt by an additional $150 billion a year? If you have a good answer, let me know. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING? YOU'RE PAYING FOR IT! It's no big secret that Democrats in general, and Bill Clinton in particular owe an almost unpayable debt to labor unions. The trial lawyers seem to own the Republicans ... but Democrats are absolute slaves to labor unions. James Bovard is one of my favorite writers. His book "Lost Rights" was the featured book on boortz.com for several weeks. Bovard wrote an article "Why Government Isn't Working" for the Wall Street Journal. You'll find it in yesterday's edition. This is a must read. Some highlights. Have you ever heard of "official time?" Well, sit down. You're about to get educated. Immediately after Clinton took office in 1993 he handed a bouquet of roses to the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). He said that they could neglect their duties -- the jobs that the taxpayers were paying them to do -- to lobby the government for higher pay and other benefits. This time spent lobbying the government and working for the union would be called "official time" and they would continue to be paid by the taxpayers for this time even tough they were working for the union. Under this doctrine, an AFGE official can take a government worker-union member and designate that person to be a full-time AFGE union official. The very next day that government worker can abandon all job responsibilities --- all of them --- 100% (you get the idea?) and start working full time on union activities. Yet, that worker will continue to be paid by the taxpayers. The Office of Personnel management used to keep records on how many federal employees devoted to union "official time" activities. Oddly, this record keeping stopped after Clinton became president. Now --- get this. The Defense Department refuses to compile the "official time" data because, according to a Defense Department official, "they don't want to antagonize the unions by tracking their activities." A bill was introduced last year to curb these "official time" abuses. You guessed it. The Clinton Administration shot it down. One more thing. Bovard points out in his WSJ article that there is a clause in one of the U.S. Postal Service's union contracts that prohibits postal supervisors from pitching in to help customers at the post office when long lines develop. Nice. TEST YOUR HISTORICAL AND POLITICAL SKILLS ... WHAT IS THIS? The U.S. House of Representatives approves an item which accuses the President of: "(1) making or causing to be made false or misleading statements to lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States; "(2) withholding relevant and material evidence or information from lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States; "(3) approving, condoning, acquiescing in and counseling witnesses with respect to the giving of false or misleading statements to lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States and false or misleading testimony in duly instituted judicial and congressional proceedings ..... " No ... that particular item had nothing to do with Bill Clinton. It was passed by the House on August 20, 1974. Almost exactly 24 years ago. It was a Bill of Impeachment against Richard M. Nixon. After this passed the House, Nixon resigned. Read those items again. Each and every single one of them applies to Bill Clinton. Every one. You don't believe it? Well ... let's give it a try. "(1) making or causing to be made false or misleading statements to lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States; Clinton has admitted to this. He even used the word "mislead" in his Ejaculation Proclamation speech to the nation Monday night. "(2) withholding relevant and material evidence or information from lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States; Back to Clinton's Monday night speech. Didn't he say that he didn't "volunteer" pertinent information. Is that not "withholding relevant and material evidence"? "(3) approving, condoning, acquiescing in and counseling witnesses with respect to the giving of false or misleading statements to lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States and false or misleading testimony in duly instituted judicial and congressional proceedings ..... " Nailed again. His conversation with Bettie Currie the day after his Paula Jones deposition. Asking Monica to return her gifts. Do we have to say any more here?boortz.com
