THREAD--From Saturday WALL STREET JOURNAL ---Part of the article ---
In Ciena's fiscal year ended Oct. 31, WorldCom and Sprint each contributed about 48% of Ciena's revenue, or a staggering 96% of its total. Ciena was banking on AT&T to contribute another $100 million to its coffers, but June documents for the Tellabs merger said that AT&T had stopped testing certain Ciena equipment. More recently, AT&T said it would be dealing with multiple vendors and would test a system from Lucent Technologies Inc. Sprint, which has purchased an estimated $180 million of equipment from Ciena, also said it would use a second vendor later this year and wasn't sure if Ciena would receive the lion's share of Sprint's future purchases. WorldCom stopped buying equipment from Ciena in February.
