Dennis,

The initial plunge was precipitated by AT&T's formal announcement of testing cancellation, despite the fact that some folks got the word days/weeks before the general masses.

Although it was speculated that TLAB mgt/shareholders would have second thoughts about a merger, a formal announcement of postponement came only hours later.

So why, on a fundamentals basis, is CIEN a bargain at this price? I'm looking for reasons to get back in (bought at 43, sold at 72 several weeks ago), but it seems to me that: 1) TLAB merger is off (not sure if this is good or bad for CIEN); 2) the competition is formidable and has deep pockets; and 3) the market is comprised of large deals - which are known to all competitors and hotly contested. What differentiates CIEN at this point?

Dennis,

The timing of Quote.com's (after hours) last trade was clearly specified.

In the past, Quote.com's numbers were quite accurate, as I frequently verified them with my brokers. Thus I have no reason to believe the $28 1/8 transaction was either an error or out-of-sequence.

However, I do agree that there is no absolute correlation of this trade with the stock's Monday morning actions, as too many wild cards are out there doing a balancing act.
