Would not want to speculate, but would assume that eBay is spending more to grow the business. The company does not have a tremendous amount of overhead. I know that eBay wants to get to that magic number of 1 million auctions going at once - any projections? Anybody?

I know for a fact that ebay has had to add many servers etc. to accommodate their increased business. At the point where they had grown to around 200K auctions their computers were no longer able to handle it. Performance at peak times was poor. Many shoppers and sellers were not able to access the auction during peak times. I am sure ebay invested large $'s to get where they are now, i.e. 600K auctions with good response time.
